Two people were electrocuted by a downed power line in Florida’s Orange County as another hurricane crossed the state.
“Deputies responded to the intersection of Bayfront Parkway and Pershing Avenue in reference to a man down call around 9:30 a.m. ET,” the county sheriff’s office posted on social media. “When they arrived, deputies found a man who was unresponsive after he exited a vehicle and made contact with a downed live power line. That man was pronounced deceased on the scene. A woman traveling with the man was also electrocuted and was transported to the hospital, where she died.”
Category 1 Hurricane Nicole made landfall south of Florida’s Vero Beach early Thursday, Nov. 10, and hit the state with heavy rains and strong winds. Two others were killed in a car crash on the Florida Turnpike while a fifth person went unconscious while trying to ride out the storm on a yacht in Cocoa Beach and later died at a hospital.
Just over a month after Category 4 Hurricane Ian devastated the Sunshine State, leaving at least 119 people dead and millions of residents without power for an extended period.
Residents living along the coast and in flood-prone areas from Palm Beach County to Volusia County had been ordered to evacuate. Many of them rushed to stock up on gas and basic commodities.
In Volusia County, dozens of oceanfront buildings and homes were severely damaged as relentless heavy waves took advantage of a weakened beach defense. The deteriorated coastlines were previously battered by Hurricane Ian.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for half of the state’s counties Monday, Nov. 7. (Related: Hurricane Ian DEVASTATES Florida; full recovery expected to take years.)
Among the areas included in the evacuation orders was Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, where the former president’s daughter Tiffany Trump is set to wed her billionaire beau Michael Boulos.
Trump’s Florida home is within the National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone of uncertainty, a report said. Before the hurricane hit Florida, forecasters said they’re expecting at least some wind and rain from the storm in the Mar-a-Lago area.
A Page Six insider said employees at the property were sent home, but Tiffany and some guests that came in for the week stayed there. The welcome dinner is not until Friday, Nov. 11, but they had to cancel some events they planned for during the week as everyone is stuck inside.
The source said the couple has invited 500 guests from around the world. While some of them were already in town, others flying in from different parts of the globe might not make it. According to reports, over 1,300 flights had been canceled because of Nicole.
The groom-to-be grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, where his family owns a multibillion-dollar conglomerate of companies. He studied project management in London. Tiffany and Michael met in Mykonos, Greece in 2018, when she was on vacation with celebrity Lindsay Lohan.
